For quite some time now, there has been a lot of talk about culture – or organizational – fit. Of course, hiring new people means finding the best candidate for the job. But perhaps it’s even more important that the person your recruit feels like they’ve finally found their place from the moment they first set foot in your company.
But how do you show candidates what your company culture is about?
There are various ways to do this and the topic justifies an article in itself. In today’s post, however, we focus on videos. Videos are a great way to give candidates a taste of what it’s like to work in your organization, a sneak peek into your company’s heart and soul.
Besides, as winter seems to have properly kicked off in our part of the world – and with the final season of Game of Thrones still a few months away – we thought you might want some fun material to watch!
Therefore we’ve selected 6 cool company culture videos (in no particular order).
IAC Applications
IAC applications is a Yonkers-based company that creates software products and applications across a variety of platforms for consumers and business users.
What we like about the video
The title, for starters: ‘Not Your Standard Corporate Culture Video’. It instantly triggers you to watch it and tells you something about the company’s spirit. The video captures the culture at IAC – a big part of which seems to be about not taking themselves to seriously (except when it comes to table tennis) – very well.
Never heard about Yonkers before? Watch the video and you’ll find out all about it.
HubSpot
HubSpot is US-based developer and marketer of software products for inbound marketing and sales.
What we like about the video
First of all its 80s film style – including a brilliant voiceover. The video covers all of the elements that candidates may wonder about: from how it all started to the company’s values and everyday office live. The whole infused with a certain – company-specific I’m sure – sense of humor.
Guaranteed smiles!
J.P. Morgan
J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. is an American multinational investment bank and financial services company headquartered in New York City.
What we like about the video
Granted, this video scores not as high on the ‘fun factor’ as the one from for example HubSpot. Part of that is due of course to the very different nature of the business.
But J.P. Morgan does a great job at painting a picture of what it is like to work there by showing a ‘day in the life of a corporate banker’. As a viewer, you certainly get a feel for the bank’s organizational culture, which, after all, is the main purpose of a company culture video.
McDonald’s
Technically speaking, this is not an official company culture video from McDonald’s. It is, however, the most enthusiastic impression you can get about working at the world’s most famous fast-food chain.
What we like about the video
Tyler Oakley, former McDonald’s employee turned YouTuber, activist, and author goes back to his first job for a day. As such, he touches on all the different aspects that come with working at McDonald’s, from taking orders at the front desk and drive-thru to cleaning tables and bins.
It’s clear that he’s having a lot of fun being back at his first job and who knows, perhaps this was a collaboration with McDonald’s but that doesn’t really matter; the catchy video gives candidates a real idea of what it is like to work at McDonald’s.
A lot of fun, by the looks of it!
Ubisoft
Ubisoft Entertainment SA is a French video game company that created acclaimed video game franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia and Just Dance (among others).
What we like about the video
Without using any words or employee testimonials, this Life at Ubisoft video gives candidates exactly that: a look into ‘office life’. So, what’s it like to work at a video game company? A little crazy, by the looks of it!
Seer Interactive
Seer Interactive is a US-based digital marketing agency with offices in Philadelphia and San Diego.
What we like about the video
Seer has a different take on the company culture video. Contrary to for example Ubisoft, there are a lot of words in this one. But given Seer’s business, the video makes complete sense and more importantly it demonstrates the company’s values in a powerful way.
On a final note
21st-century job seekers, as we’ve said before, look for more than a job when they apply somewhere. They want a place where they can feel themselves, an environment with people that inspire them and an organization that shares the same values and believes as them. A video can be a great way to show your candidates exactly what it is your company culture is about.
